Mary O. Laws, 94, formerly of Decatur, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Saturday July 3, 2010 in the Moweaqua Nursing and Retirement Center with her family by her side.

 

Funeral service will be 1:00 PM Wednesday July 7, 2010 at Salem Baptist Church in Decatur with visitation from 11:30 AM until 1:00 PM at the church. Burial will be in Macon County Memorial Park Cemetery in Harristown. Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home in Macon is assisting the family with arrangements. In Lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Salem Baptist Church Building Fund or Shriner’s Children’s Hospital.

 

Mary was born July 20, 1915 to Joseph E. and Clara N. Hamell in Rosamond, IL where she lived until she married Marvin L. Laws on April 11, 1936 in Decatur. Marvin preceded her in death on May 18, 1969.

 

She was a member of Salem Baptist Church where she attended faithfully for 64 years. She was employed with W. T. Grant Company in Fairview Plaza for 20 years until they closed, and then she worked for Ben Franklin Store in South Shores for 10 years.

 

Mary and Marvin had two daughters: Barbara J. McElroy and husband Rayfe of Macon and Mary L. White and husband Robert of Argenta. She also leaves six grandchildren whom she loved dearly: Randall E. McElroy and wife Lara of Decatur, Ronald W. McElroy and wife Robin of New Providence, IA., Rhonda R. Bossert and husband James of Pine, AZ., Ryan S. McElroy and wife Denise of Tower Hill, Joseph A. White and friend Kathy of Edinburg and Douglas C. White of Argenta; 19 great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren; and brother, Ralph E. Hamell and wife Evelyn of Warsaw, IN.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sisters and three brothers -in -law.

 

The family wishes to thank the CNA’s and all the nurses at Moweaqua Nursing and Retirement Center for all the love and care they gave mom. Thank you Tabitha for all your kindness and concern you showed mom during her last day with us. Mom finally got to go home.
